My Maui Experience at the House of the Sun

Mark Twain said watching the sunrise from the 10,023 ft. summit of Haleakalā in Maui was “the sublimest spectacle I ever witnessed.” In my essay, “Eye in the Sky,” in the Moutain Gazette, I write about my experience of driving up the dark and curvy summit road, Hawai‘ian endemic animals and plants, and share what I learned from a native Hawai‘ian about sunrise at the House of the Sun.
