The library is quite. Vella sits staring at a computer screen flipping through microfiche articles. Suddenly, her eyes widen. She grabs her pen and jots something down on a piece of paper. Afterward she grabs her phone and runs outside.

Vella: Ohmygod Jer you won’t believe what I just found. It is sooo perfect. No listen. So, there’s this vampire buried in this little town, in Ohio, called Rushsylvania. I know right, that name just bleeds vampire. So anyway, they staked this vampire guy, then buried him and shortly afterward a tree grew in that same spot. No really. The locals say the tree grew from the stake in his heart. Wait, someone’s coming.

A woman walks up the sidewalk toward the library entrance. Vella quits talking, and turns to the side. Her face is emotionless. One hand is on her cell phone, the other shoved in her pocket. She pretends she is staring at some faraway object, but out of the corner of her eye she watches the person walking her direction. The woman ignores her and continues to walk through the library doors. The moment the doors close Vella takes her hand out of her pocket and begins talking again.

Vella: Ok, I can talk now. No just some lady. Isn’t that a crazy story. Oh I almost forgot the best part. So, every year red flowers bloom on this tree. I know, it’s a sign. We have to go there. So, like when are you coming? No, I told you’d I’d be here till 630. I’ve been here for like 2 hours now.

Vella leans against the wall and tucks her hair behind her ear and switches the phone to the other ear. An exasperated look comes over her face.

Vella: I don’t know what my mom’s cooking for dinner. Of course you can, you always eat at our house. No way, my parents don’t care. It’s better than eating at home alone. No really. Of course. Now get your butt over here. Seriously.
