Battle Gingerbread 2011
Last year as I was making my holiday rounds at the events in town and was drawn into bright colors of “Battle Gingerbread.” I was amazed at the creations and of course, my sweet tooth was drooling over every piece of yummy goodness. I was so impressed that I decided next year I wanted to be in the competition. So I gathered up a group of wonderful Savvy Gals and we started making our gingerbread plans.
The theme this year was “Holly Jolly Christmas” which incorporated the characters from the TV show “Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer” with Burl Ives as Sam the Snowman. One of our members came up with the idea of a reindeer flight school. We made a cut up diorama of our working platform which proved to be very useful. We had so many cool ideas to incorporate that seeing it in life-size portions helped us fine tune our actual space and what we could include.
On the day of the competition we had 4 hours to complete our masterpiece.
Battle Gingerbread 2011 12 p.m.
The base of the house and the runway.
The landscaping coming together sweet by sweet.
A few of my favorite things by Barbara – Sam the Snowman and Christmas Seals!!
4 hours later…
We had extra reindeer cookies left over. My taste buds were in heaven.
Erin’s mad skills rocked on our cottage! Can you believe that is icing?
The scene was topped off with Helen’s Christmas elves.
The competition was open to the public and all day long we had lots of oohs’ and aahs’ from passer-bys. It was a fun way to be involved in the community and be creative. We had a great team with different skills and ideas. Thank you all for participating and three cheers for wining First Place!
